Sandstone Cuts, Finishes, and Applications
Cuts:
Natural cleft: This is an unprocessed split along the rock’s natural layer/vain
Finishes:
Honed: When the stone surface is honed, the stone appearance and texture becomes smoother, and sometimes it’s color becomes darker.
Polished: When the stone surface is polished, the stone appears shiny, and sometimes it’s color becomes darker.
Sand blasted: When the stone surface is sand blasted, the texture becomes rough, and sometimes color becomes lighter.
Brush: When the stone surface is brushed, the stone appearance and texture softens and becomes smoother because it closes up the surface pores. During this brushed finish sometimes color of the stone becomes darker.
Flamed: When the stone surface is brushed, the stone appearance and texture becomes rougher and sometimes the colors change during this process.
Bush Hammered: When the stone surface is brush hammered the stone surface becomes rougher. Out of all the finishes this is the roughest texture.
Applications:
Walling: full veneer or thin veneer
Flooring: cut to size pieces or pavers
